Accenture Hackathon 2015

Accenture Hackathon 2015

It’s been a long 26 hours Accenture Hackathon 2015 competition held by Accenture this year at Scape Building, The Treetop. The challenge was that companies today are looking for affordable work travel solutions that can help employees on the go plan and manage their business trips more efficiently. We are to conceptualize a solution for an OS independent employee travel mobile application. My team consist of 5 team members and we are Team 03, BizTravellers, or as called by the ASEAN Technology Managing Director, we are also known as ‘One Direction Boys’.

The hackathon kickstarted on the 29 August 2015 - 30 August 2015.

Team Essential aims to overcome the challenge with one simple idea. Essentially, in a single click automated approval process using an intelligent decision tree algorithm to decide the best fit hotel and flight bookings for an employee. Our prototype need not know the many details and approval process before a trip can be made, instead, we designed it in such a way that the end-to-end process becomes automated. Our key feature and our only emphasized feature which also addressed the business problem, is a one-click automated process that books your flight and hotel within a set of constrained from the Business Policies set by the assumed HR. One click, one key feature, one solution, how does that sound?

Our algorithm ensures and takes care of the flight by booking the tickets within a given budget such that it also provides ample time for the employee to settle down after their flight before the actual meeting at the clients’. Secondly, our algorithm finds the nearest hotel around the clients’ office so that it is very accessible, and the hotel should also be within the company’s budget.

This end-to-end solution may sound simple and there is only one to two features to it, but this is definitely a winning product.

Accenture ASEAN Technology Managing Director, Sam Liew

Sam is a really friendly and nice guy. He called our team the ‘One Directions Boys’, I guess maybe we are so fun and lovable!

Team Essential. This is our official team photo by the photographers! I present to you Team Essential

This was taken by another lovely lady who kept noticing us and taking so many photos of us while we were hard at work! Thank you Charlene!

This is our consultation and evaluation after our presentation. We are basically sharing our backend technologies, algorithms, key features, with these evaluators.

The presentation was outstanding. The judges were so intrigued and engrossed by our very own Intelligent Decision Making Algorithm using Machine Learning to classify and predict set of data from our training data. The idea of this Intelligent Decision Making Algorithm got most of the judges excited to know more. Besides that, during our final consultation / evaluation after the presentation, the evaluators were amazed by the product as well as the decision tree, however at the same time disappointed that we didn’t have time to integrate a full solution. Based on their feedbacks, they said our prototype would really “WOW” them if we had gotten the integrations for the Intelligent Decision Making System to be fully implemented.

The final results were released. Team Essential had won the Best User Experience Award. Though we didn’t made it to the Top 3, however, it was my privileged to work with these guys! We had the most fun laughing, disturbing people, joked around, and laughed at Steven Lim Kor Kor for his entertainment, ultimately the process and the people was what made it fun! It was such a humbling experience that a couple of my friends from NUS and NTU and I will be joining the SIA App challenge as well!
